A solution to the parking problem at Laronde Elementary

Petition Background (Preamble):
Laronde Elementary School Parking Problems.
Every day, parents of children attending Laronde struggle to get their children to and from the school because of a lack of parking spaces in the school parking lot. Over the course of a school year, including both morning drop-offs and afternoon pickups, this problem ends up occurring approximately 400 times per year for every parent! The whole area, including the streets around the school, becomes a chaotic and unsafe mess.
This is problematic enough, but to make matter worse, the school's idea of fixing the problem is to simply hire people to enforce the strict “no parking” rules and we parents feel that this only aggravates the problem. If we (as everyone has had to at some point) park in the “no parking” zone, it is because there is nowhere else to go!

Petition:
At this point, we have 6 suggestions for possible improvement of the situation:
1. Creating more parking spots. Use this petition with city council for re-zoning if needed. Re-plan the area better. Get rid of the roundabout drop off blocks. Create spots on the grass area around the parking lot.
2. Offer a school bus service.
3. Delay the second morning bell and/or make the first bell earlier to increase the time window for children to be dropped off in the morning.
4. Use the person hired to enforce parking rules for better efficiency by having them help us instead. That person could help by shepherding the older and more responsible children from the cars in the direction of the playground so the parents could drive off without having to park.
5. Reserve the spaces in the parking lot for parents with smaller children. For example, allow parents with children in grade 3 or lower to use the spots in the parking lot, while parents with children in grade 4 or above can park on 131 St. All parents bringing pre-kindergarten children with them to drop-off/pickup would of course be permitted to use the parking lot spots.
6. As a worst case scenario, we would request that the school staff give up their staff-only parking spots for parents with small children. We obviously know that teachers work hard enough to deserve a reserved spot, but none of them have to carry anyone small around after all. 131 St. is not that far when you have only yourself to walk.
If none of these are found suitable, school officials should call other schools and discuss what can be done to remedy the solution.
We, undersigned, believe that if the amount of effort and money was spent working on fixing the problem instead of fighting it, the problem would be long gone.
