A break for disability support workers during 8 hour shifts
Petition published by robyn carroll on Nov 28, 2010
Target: Samaritans
Region: Australia
Petition Background (Preamble):
Disability support workers can work shifts from anywhere up to 10 hours. Our clients are not only intellectually disabled but may have psychiatric issues and health issues which make our job very challenging at times. In our organization we are not allowed to have breaks. I have asked the person second in charge of HR and he replied "you get paid 8 hours- you work 8 hours.".
A proper lunch break would allow support workers to be more alert and refreshed during the shift and allow us to deliver quality care to our clients.

Petition:
We, the undersigned, call on the organizations within the disability services industry to allow support workers to take a lunch break during eight hour shifts.
