Reinstate King's Cross Street Wardens

Published by Sarah Hayward on Oct 24, 2009
Target: Camden Council
Background (Preamble):
In June 2008 Camden Council, run by a coalition of Conservatives and Liberal Democrats cut the dedicated Street Warden Service for King's Cross Ward.

Since the local Labour Councillors and campaigners have had increasing reports of growing crime in the area and Metropolitan Police figures support this. Reports include increased anti-social behaviour and more worryingly a return of on street drug dealing and prostitution to the area.

The area of King's Cross with it's two mainline stations and proximity to central London means it faces unique challenges in fighting crime. The Street Wardens were a vital part of that fight and essential to keeping those who live in King's Cross safe.

We want our Street Wardens back.
Petition:
Since the removal of the dedicated Street Warden service for King's Cross anti-social behaviour and crime has rocketed in the area. This includes the return of on street drug dealing and prostitution.

The people who live in, work in and visit King's Cross have a right to feel safe. We, the undersigned, call on Camden Council to reinstate the service as soon as possible.
